How Bay Street Hoops is Helping Drive for Dreams

March 13, 2017

The Drive for Dreams Foundation is dedicated to helping youth improve their basketball skills, teach life lessons and the importance of education. Drive for Dreams primarily supports King Nation Basketball, a group which strives to create life-long opportunities for youth through basketball.

The collective goal for the Drive for Dreams Foundation is to communicate the need for financial support through sponsorships and donations from the community and facilitate and generate the much-needed funding to support at-risk youth, allowing them the experience to achieve excellence in education while enjoying the sport they love.

Since 2015, Bay Street Hoops has been a crucial part of the funding for programming provided by Drive for Dreams. The foundation has received a total of $130,000 from BSH. The funds raised by Bay Street Hoops allows these students to play in high-profile tournaments, allowing them to be seen by scouts and coaches who award scholarships.

To put things into perspective, the chances of a student athlete playing basketball in high school receiving a scholarship to play basketball in University is about 3%. Seems a bit impossible, right? Through King Nation Basketball, 60% of players receive full scholarships to play at Division 1, Division 2, Junior College in the US and at Canadian Universities. Another 20% receive partial scholarships and virtually all graduates go on to play/attend at a post-secondary school.
